Content Analysis of Positive Therapist¡¯s Characteristics as Perceived by Play Therapists

Abstract
This study was conducted with the aim of analyzing the positive characteristics based on good therapists as they are perceived by play therapists. The subjects comprised 56 therapists. The methodology used was the self-reporting inquiry method, and the collected data was analyzed by means of content analysis. The therapist``s traits in terms of self-reflection, receptive attitudes and the ability to empathize, were judged to be among the most positive characteristics of therapists. Situations perceived as being positive were when a good therapist in the therapy process was able to solve the main appeal problem, when a therapist was able to respect and accept a child, and empathize with a child. To be a good play therapist, professional experiences such as supervision & educational analysis, and these were seen to be the most important. When a therapist perceives herself as being a good therapist, changes such as higher degree of a child¡®s openness, the therapist``s confidence, and being more able to solve the main appeal problem were analyzed as important. These results, based on the experience of therapist can assist to develop professional and personal qualities of play therapist.
